Just like the unwitting animal of it's namesake, which keeps coming back to the waterhole to drink regardless of how many crocodiles are swimming nearby, Shinu Gnu are a band who refuse to lay down and die quietly ...  In fact, Shinu Gnu refuse to do anything quietly.

The three piece from Sydney blend all the classic elements of alternative rock - be it indie, garage, grunge, powerpop and more. The result is noisy, head-bopping rock with a strong penchant for pop melodies, all delivered with a swathe of mid-age angst. Inspired by bands such as Superchunk,  Dinosaur Jr, Archers Of Loaf, Husker Du, et al.

May 2018 saw the release of the band's debut EP, Serve Hors d'Oeuvres, 5 songs which “deliver bludgeoning riffage with pop melodies”. Bucking the trends of current music releases, the CD was initially made available exclusively in one record store in Sydney, Red Eye Records, not spread all over the interwebs like a drunken floozy on a salacious splurge - a sign of the band's will to do things their own way and a nod to their love of 90's. The lead single, Always Knew, is a slice of adoration for indie pop and a clear example of the band's main mission statement … keep it simple and give it a hook.

The band toured extensively over the following years until the big C word hit in 2020, bringing everything to a momentary halt. Like the rest of the world, the band got to, take a step back, breathe deeply and reconvene refreshed and inspired. 2021 has seen the band release videos for Pieces and Viagra, an insight into some promising things to come from the band.

In the meantime, Shinu Gnu are back on the road to bring annoyingly loud and sincere music back to sticky pub floors everywhere. Come drink with them in the crocodile infested pools on their way to total suburban domination.
